No, this isn't a scam. We have ads around the site that help pay for prizes and we also have great sponsors that offer awesome prizes for you to win.
Giving It Away is where all the cool people come to win great prizes for free every day, even on the weekends! To make things even better, each giveaway you enter earns you Givitbucks (our in-house reward program) which can be used to purchase entries into any giveaway or great stuff in our store.
People who like to win free stuff and get more free stuff just by trying to win free stuff (and for people at least 18 years of age and living in either Canada or the US).

Why don't you charge for sponsoring a giveaway?
Imagine a website that gives away great products all day every day to millions of fans? Our philosophy is worth a whole lot more then making a couple of bucks here and there from a few sponsors. We want everyone to love the Giving It Away experience from our participants to our sponsors and even our staff.
Once you've signed up for free you need to complete your profile. Then just go to our home page , select a giveaway you want to enter and start tweeting and commenting on our giveaway videos. You'll see your points and entries add up right in front of your eyes... just watch for the red x icon to turn into a green checkmark!
To enter with Givit simply press the red 'Giv it' button for one entry. You'll need a free Givit account (get one at www.givit.ca) and you'll need to add your Givit username to your your profile.
To enter with YouTube you must have a YouTube account (click here to get one for free) and it must be added on your profile. When we release a new giveaway video on YouTube leave a comment and you will be awarded 1 entry. As a bonus (well not really, but it makes us feel good!) be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel so you don't miss out on any of our videos!
To enter with Twitter simply press the blue 'tweet' button to post the giveaway tweet to your feed (click here to get a free Twitter account. Also, make sure you've added your Twitter name to your profile.

How/where do I redeem Givitbucks?
Login to Giving It Away, click on a giveaway you want to enter, and move the Givitbucks slider from the left to the right. Unless otherwise noted, you may redeem 5 Givitbucks to get an additional entry. The slider will not move if you have less than 5 Givitbucks. If you do not see a slider it is because you do not have JavaScript enabled.
How come I didn't get my YouTube entry?
Check your profile to make sure that you have entered your correct YouTube username (not login email). The spelling must be exact. It may take up to 5 minutes for your entry to show while we are waiting to get the information from YouTube. Send us a quick email with your YouTube username and which giveaway video you commented on if you've done the above and it still didn't work.
How come I didn't get my Twitter entry?
Check your profile to make sure that you have entered your correct Twitter username, spelling must be exact. It may take up to 5 minutes for your entry to show while we are waiting to get the information from Twitter.
Important: Make sure your Twitter account is not protected. If your account is protected than we can't see if you've tweeted or not!

How long until I get my prize?
Generally we like to be very quick in delivering our prizes, our gift cards get sent over email within 24 hours. However, when shipping physical prizes within Canada delivery may take 2 - 3 weeks and shipping across the border may take 4 - 6 weeks.
